About the HSC

  
The Health Sciences Centre is the largest health care referral, teaching and research Centre serving residents of Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut. Located on 32 acres of land in central Winnipeg, the Health Sciences Centre is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Canada and a major referral centre for complex health problems requiring expert consultation and sophisticated investigation and management. Designated as the Trauma Centre for Manitoba, the Health Sciences Centre is also the Centre for transplants and for most hospital-based pediatric care in the Province. Highly skilled teams of professional staff provide acute care and continuing care to the ill and injured.

The Health Sciences Centre is formally affiliated with the University of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba and is an operating division of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Comprehensive diagnostic, ambulatory and in-patient services are provided, including those for the most complex health problems requiring expert consultation and sophisticated investigation and management.  The Centre is designated as Manitoba’s Trauma Centre and is the Centre for transplants and most hospital based pediatric care in the Province. 

The Health Sciences Centre has a special role within the region to provide Provincial Programs, to provide patient care to the core area of Winnipeg and to provide patient care to the Aboriginal peoples of Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut.  Provincial Programs are usually highly specialized services, often unique to the Centre, although some are provided in partnership with other community agencies or health facilities both within and outside Manitoba.

The Health Sciences Centre is accredited by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation.
