The Mission of the Health Sciences
Centre is to enhance the health of the residents of Manitoba and the
surrounding regions through programs of patient care, education and
research and, while doing so, to respect and advance the well being
and dignity of the individual.
To provide high quality and innovative
patient care through programs that are responsive to the physical and
psychosocial needs of the patients we serve, including their rights to
be informed and to be respected for their beliefs, religious
practices, and customs.
To promote the maintenance of health
and the prevention of illness.
To provide a pleasant, non-threatening
and safe environment which responds to the needs of the patients we
serve, and their families, in a caring fashion.
To recognize and promote the special
role of the Health Sciences Centre in developing and providing
Provincial patient care programs, in providing care to the core area
of the City of Winnipeg, and in providing patient care to the
aboriginal peoples of Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut.
To work with other educational
institutions in providing high quality and innovative educational
programs for the health professions.
To develop and implement educational
programs for our employees, the patients we serve and their families,
hospitals and agencies who refer patients and the community at large.
To provide leadership in the
development and dissemination of new knowledge through basic science,
clinical research and health services research.
To promote an attitude of critical
inquiry in all our activities in order to improve patient care and
health care delivery.
To enable our employees to achieve this
Mission, the Health Sciences Centre will strive to provide a safe,
comfortable and supportive workplace. The Health Sciences Centre will
pursue this Mission in accordance with accepted ethical values
recognized by society as a whole as well as those ethical standards
adopted by professional organizations represented in the Centre.
