Description:
The Diabetes Research Group is involved in both clinical and basic research in the area of diabetes and its complications. They are active in both adult and pediatric research. The clinical research, sponsored by various pharmaceutical companies, is concerned with the efficacy on new therapies for the treatment of diabetes and its complication. This is currently a very exciting time in clinical diabetes with the introduction of new classes of oral agents for the treatment of diabetes, the development of new insulin analogs and new ways of delivering insulin. In addition the Diabetes Research Group participates in National and International multicentre trials looking at the effects of treatments on co-morbid conditions such as heart attacks and stroke in diabetic patients.
