Description:
The Child Protection Centre (CPC) is an assessment and early intervention unit for abused children and their families. In addition to providing assessment/intervention services, the Centre provides consultation and educational services to community professionals. Requests for service are accepted from professionals throughout the province. Consultations are provided to professionals or any person in the community. Long-term counselling of children and adults is not available at CPC. 

1. Medical Assessment 
Child Protection Centre Clinic 
Physical and sexual abuse medical assessments weekdays by appointment. Sexual abuse assessments include play preparation prior to medical examination and a brief social work assessment of the family situation where necessary. 

Child Protection Developmental Clinic 
For children whose development or behaviour is suspected to have been affected by abuse, neglect or deprivation. 

Children’s Hospital Emergency 
Outside of CPC office hours (see below), call 787-2306 for injuries requiring immediate attention or sexual assault involving vaginal or anal penetration and/or ejaculation within the past 72 hours. Children with more severe injuries may be admitted to Children’s Hospital. CPC will follow up on the next business day. 

2. Psycho-social Assessment 
Parent-child assessments are provided on request for families where abuse has or is suspected to have occurred. Also provided are: 
a) Psychological assessments of abused children 
b) Psychometric assessments of parents’ intellectual functioning and/or mental health diagnosis 
c) Provision by the Child Life Specialist of post-disclosure play sessions and personal safety teaching and consultation to daycare centres and foster homes 
d) Case management consultations 
e) Treatment recommendations and referrals.
