Description:
The education team of specially prepared nurses and dietitians offers diabetes education to people with type 1, type 2, gestational, and secondary diabetes. Individual sessions are offered only at the DEC while classes are offered at both the DEC and the Wellness Institute. 

We offer introductory classes as well as continuing education sessions. The continuing education topics include: 

	Foot care
	Managing complications
	Complementary medicine
	Managing stress and illness
	Label reading
	Fat and cholesterol
	Weight management
	Exercise
	Grocery shopping tour

Clients attending the DEC are referred by an endocrinologist, a community physician, or a doctor or other health professional at HSC. 

The DEC team works closely with the referring physicians to develop diabetes care plans to provide information and skills necessary for people to manage their diabetes.
