Description:
Therapeutic Recreation contributes to the recovery of individuals experiencing developmental,
cognitive, emotional, social or physical difficulties.
Therapeutic Recreation services are provided through group and/or individual interventions and include:

Therapy to improve functional abilities, well-being and facilitate independence in positive leisure pursuits.

Leisure education to enhance and promote life-long recreation skills and attitudes.
|
|
Recreation participation to promote health and personal growth through leisure and recreation experiences
which contribute to the maintenance of physical, emotional and mental well-being during hospital admission.
|
|
Community re-integration to provide assistance and support in removing physical and psychological barriers that
impede participation in community recreation programs and services

Indications for Therapeutic Recreation Services:
Referrals for therapeutic recreation are indicated if clients would benefit
from any of the above services or interventions. Interventions may include:
group activities on and off ward (e.g. social, horticulture, art, leisure, exercise, cooking),
cognitive stimulation, leisure education, community awareness outings,
community support, physical activity, pet-visitation and evening activities (e.g. movie night, bingo).
Recreation coordinators in Psych Health provide services to the following areas:

| Adult Services in General Psychiatry, Mood Disorders, Forensic, and Schizophrenia Services |
