Located in the hear of Winnipeg, Health Sciences Centre (HSC) is one of Canada's largest tertiary care facilities. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities at one location in 6 facilities. (Women's, Children's, the Anne Thomas Building, the General, PsycHealth, and Rehab/Respiratory). Volunteer positions are available 7 days per week, morning, afternoon, and evening.

When people visit HSC, they find the large complex intimidating. Volunteers ease their stress by helping people find their way around HSC.

Being admitted to hospital can be a stressful time. Volunteers make patients feel welcome and supported when they escort them from Admitting to their unit.

It is a stressful time when a loved one is in intensive care. Volunteers provide families with comfort and support by orienting them to visiting procedures, and provide information about the patient's status following surgery.
When patients are lonely and need someone to listen, volunteers are there.

A hospital stay can be a lonely time for children, especially when family members can't be there. Volunteers help by reading to and playing with children.

Patients and families are supported by gift shop volunteers, who help them access goods and services during their stay at HSC.

During a hospital visit or stay, it's great for people to take a break by visiting Guildy's where they can purchase coffee, muffins, soups, salads, wraps, and even ice cream. Volunteers help the staff provide fast, friendly efficient customer service.

A beautiful floral arrangement can brighten up a patient's day. Volunteers assist the professional florists in our gift shops with floral arrangements, and deliver them to the patient's bedside.

There's nothing like the daily paper to keep patients in touch while they are in hospital. Our crews of newspaper delivery volunteers deliver the papers to the patients' rooms and waiting areas of HSC.

Volunteers lift patients spirits by providing complimentary reading material during their stay

Volunteers provide encouragement and support to patients in Physiotherapy.

Volunteers support patients as they begin to resume normal recreational activities following treatment.

Volunteers assist staff with special projects and free their time for important patient care duties.
Even if you have only a few hours a week to help out, we are interested in talking to you. We will do our best to find a n opportunity that matches your interests and availability. Positions are available 7 days per week, mornings, afternoons and evenings. We have volunteer placements in the General, Rehab, PsycHealth, Children's and Women's facilities
