Volunteer Opportunities
Ways volunteers can get involved at HSC
We offer a wide variety of volunteer assignments throughout the hospital. Positions are available seven days per week, mornings, afternoon and evenings. We have volunteer placements in the General, Rehabilitation, PsycHealth, Children’s and Women’s hospitals.
All our volunteer positions can be grouped under these areas:
Direct Adult Patient Contact providing support to patients and their families such as recreation programs, ICU lounge, emergency room or volunteer visitor. If you are enjoy meeting and helping people, you will be interested in a placement in these area.
Hospitality/Patient Care Service area which have patient contact with a shorter interaction time such as Admitting Ambassador, flower delivery, book carts, newspaper delivery. These assignments are excellent ones for people who like to stay active and like greeting people.
Children’s which covers a wide range of assignments. Volunteers, who must be at least 16 years old, visit the children at their bedside, read to them, supervise recreation activities, and offer emotional support to patients and their families. Some examples of placements include assisting in Children’s X-ray, playroom, wards, or emergency. We also offer experience with children through assisting in the day care.
Retail which provides experience or opportunities to share skills in either our gift shops or food service areas of Pedway or Guildy’s. Volunteers in these areas may learn customer service, cash handling stocking merchandize or food preparation skills. The funds raised in these businesses go towards improving patient care.
Support/Indirect service where volunteers work with staff to support their work.
