Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers who have daytime availability during the week are prioritized to meet the needs of HSC’s programs.

Evenings and weekend positions are very limited.

Only applicants with availability that meets our needs will be contacted.

All our volunteer positions can be grouped under four areas:

The volunteer applications are divided into three choices. These choices are based on your age and the time period that you may want to volunteer for. The applications are split into three choices: Adult for volunteers 18 years old or older, Youth for volunteers who are 16 years or older and summer for applicants who only want to volunteer in the summer months (May-August or July to August). Please select the application that is applicable to you.

The list below is a sampling of volunteer roles at HSC.
Available volunteer opportunities vary.

Adult patient support

Volunteers interact directly with adult patients and their families. Placements include visiting inpatients, delivering reading materials to inpatient units, offering friendly support to patients and their families, acting as HSC ambassadors, and helping people get to appointments.

Children's patient support

Volunteers who are 18 years or older may specialize in supporting services to pediatric patients. Placements include visiting inpatients, offering friendly support to patients and their families, and assisting in the playroom.

Retail support

Volunteers in our gift shop and florist areas will learn customer service, cash handling, merchandising and food preparation skills.

Administrative support

Volunteers assist staff throughout HSC to support their work in an office setting. Tasks may include patient calling, building patient charts, and filing.
